2021-2022 Strategic Priorities of the SJC Standing Committee on Lawyer Well-Being
The Standing Committee has released its 2021-2022 strategic priorities. Core priorities continue to include increasing awareness of well-being research, resources, training and support, as well as reducing stigma around mental health, well-being, and utilization of resources and support.
2021 Recommendations for Workplace Culture Changes Post-Pandemic
The pandemic made clear that flexibility in legal workplaces is possible and in fact permits lawyers across many demographics to succeed and thrive. This moment represents a critical juncture for the legal community to demonstrate the true extent of support to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in the profession; an opportunity to make positive changes in the legal workplace that will truly support the well-being and increase diversity, equity, and inclusion of our entire profession, including those from underrepresented and historically excluded backgrounds and identities.
2021 Report Summarizing Affinity Bar Town Hall Meetings
On February 4, 2021 we released our Report Summarizing Affinity Bar Town Hall Meetings. The Report provides a summary of seven meetings the Committee conducted in the second half of 2020 to hear from attorneys and law students from underrepresented, historically excluded, and systemically oppressed populations about their recent experiences of Massachusetts law practice and culture.

2019 Report of the Massachusetts SJC Steering Committee on Lawyer Well-Being
The Steering Committee presented its report to the SJC in July 2019. The comprehensive report offers many recommendations to improve the working lives of lawyers in whatever setting or area of law they practice and to address the aspects of the legal profession that contribute to unhealthy levels of anxiety and stress, isolation, mental health challenges, and alcohol or other substance use disorders.
